  • Description

Cuban Premier Fidel Castro told a rally of 25,000 trade unionists in the Presidential Palace Square, Havana, Cuba, Jan 13, that mass mobilisation will cease when Senator John Kennedy becomes President of the USA. It will end on Jan 21, when the "phase of greatest peril has passed."
He said the Government would not cease preparing the Cuban people for any possible invasion by the U.S., and Cuba would "stay alert". The "invasion scare" began on Jan 2 when Premier Castro announced (on the second anniversary of the revolution) that the American Government was planning an invasion before President-elect Kennedy moved into the White House.

Reports said the rally was the poorest attended of several such rallies. Antagonism to the Castro regime from the Roman Catholic Church is rising and more counter-revolutionary bands are at work.
