SYNOPSIS: Egyptian President Sadat was in Vienna on Friday at the start of his two-pronged visit to Austria for talks on the Middle East crisis. In Vienna he was greeted at the Presidential Office by Austrian President Rudolf Kirchschlager.

Austria this week plays host to a vital diplomatic issue... on Sunday, United States President Sadat to discuss the next steps to be taken in Middle East peacemaking. The possible reconvening of the Geneva Peace Conference is of prime importance in these talks, and the talks with President Ford. The Egyptian leader has long urged that if the Geneva conference is to be reconvened, membership should be extended to countries other than those which participated in the nineteen-seventy three conference. Then, membership was restricted to the United States, Russia and Middle Eastern nations.

But President Sadat wants more than the super-powers in one peace talks. The other Austrian leader involved in these Vienna talks was Dr. Bruno Kreisky, the Chancellor and the man Mr. Sadat had earlier suggested as a possible European participant in the conference on the Middle East.

But at the close of talks on Friday night, Dr. Kreisky eliminated that possibility, saying such a role would be inappropriate for a neutral country. Egyptian sources said other participants in a broadened conference might include Britain, France, Yugoslavia, India or a Latin American country.

Accompanied by the Austrian Chancellor, President Sadat travelled to Salzburg on Saturday. Both men were to great President Ford on his arrival from Madrid on Sunday.
