  • Description

In contrast to the famine-hit areas of Bihar, farmers throughout the rest of India are now busy with harvesting the ripe crops. All of India has been hit by lack of rain and the harvest is not as big as it should have been.

India's food situation is serious, with the Bihar district an official famine area. It is estimated that more than 12 million people are short of food and water.

In other areas, less severely hit by drought, crops have been affected by dry earth and the absence of seasonal rain..
During harvesting, only a few of the more wealthy farmers use mechanical help. Mostly, the Indian harvest is gathered and threshed by men and women with the aid of bullocks.
