    Zaire's President, Mobutu Sese Seko, made a stinging attack on white minority governments in Africa at the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday (October 4th).

    President Mobutu was making the first speech by an African Head of State to the 28th session of the General Assembly.

    He said Africa was the only continent were colonisation, racial segregation, apartheid and contempt continued because of the colour of a man's skin, He said Zaire was making its own interpretation of the problems confronting the world, starting with the problems of Africa.

    Turning to the problems of starvation in much of French-speaking West Africa and Ethiopia, President Mobutu said aid to any country or individual should never be humiliating. Although parcels of food had been sent to the famine-threatened countries, nons of the rich nations had offered to cancel the international debts of these countries. He then called on the Assembly to pass a resolution cancelling the external debts of the countries stricken by the four-year drought.

    President Mobutu said if Africa was truly united, the racial and economic abuses the continent now suffered would rapidly be ended.

    The President of Zaire later went on to announce that his country had cut diplomatic relations with Israel, out of consideration for a sister nation. Egypt.
