  • Description

The United States has agreed to provide Egypt with 200,000 tons of wheat under and agreement signed in Cairo on Sunday (10 November).

The agreement was signed by Egyptian Minister for Agriculture Said Fathi Matbouli and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mr. Earl Butz.

Mr. Butz, who arrived in Cairo on Saturday (9 November), said at the signing ceremony at the Egyptian Ministry that the United Stats was happy to provide such assistance to Egypt and praised the increasingly-friendly relations between the two countries.

Mr. Butz, who left on Monday (11 November) for Damascus, said his department would do its best to help Egypt solve its food problems ..."We will continue to examine your needs and our capability to meet these needs. We are delighted at the growing friendship between Egypt and the United States", he said.

Sunday's agreement is the second food deal between the countries this month. An earlier deal was signed in Cairo the week before, under which the United States will ship 100,000 tons of wheat, 60,000 bales of short-staple cotton and 10-million-US-dollars (about four-million-pounds-sterling) worth of tobacco.
