    West Germany's National Day was celebrated at Expo-70 in Japan on Wednesday (13 May) with a special ceremony attended by President Heinemann and Foreign Minister School.

    Five thousand people gathered at the Festival Plaza at Osaka to join in short celebrations to mark the occasion.

    Official guests included President and Mrs. Heinemann and Foreign Minister School who are at present visiting Japan. Many of those gathered to welcome the guests wore national costume, as also did a West German band.

    The official ceremony included a speech from the President and a short programme of entertainment on the Plaza, before the visitors made their way to the West German Pavilion to browse through exhibits.
