Background: Many of the delegates attending the Organisation of African Unity Foreign Ministers conference in Kampala took a break from politics on Saturday (26 July) to attend the first Miss OAU Contest.

Sixteen girls, all Ugandans, competed for the title. And the winner was 19-year-old Miss Margret Nasawuli, a student from Eastern Province. The runners up were Ester Kajwiga, also 19, from Southern Province, and Agatha Mutinyo (24), a secretary from Central Province.

After the results were announced, Gambian Foreign Minister Mr. A.B. N'jie presented the Miss OAU 1975 sash to the winner--but she'll have to wait until Monday to be officially crowned....by Uganda's President Idi Amin.
