THE ONLY COUNTRY TO HAVE SUFFERED FROM NUCLEAR WEAPONS. - THE FIRST ATOM BOMB WAS DROPPED ON HIROSHIMA, THE AFTER EFFECTS OF WHICH AFTER FOURTEEN YEARS ARE STILL TOO GRIM - JAPAN IS GENUINELY WORRIED ABOUT THE INCREASING POLLUTION OF THE ATMOSPHERE THROUGH NUCLEAR TESTS.

    THE PARADE WAS LED BY MR. YOU YASUI, CHAIRMAN OF THE WORLD CONGRESS AGAINST NUCLEAR TESTS, WHO WAS CHEERED THROUGHOUT THE PARADE.

    A BANNER "5,000 KILOMETER PEACE PARADE TO HIROSHIMA" DOMINATES A MEETING HELD BEFORE THE PARADE STARTED. CHAIRMAN YASUI APPEALED TO THE THREE NUCLEAR NATIONS - THE UNITED STATES, THE UNITED KINGDOM AND SOVIET RUSSIA - TO STOP FURTHER TESTS.

    AMONG THE GUESTS AT THE MEETING WAS MRS. ETHEL MANIN.

    THESE ORDINARY PEOPLE SYMBOLISE JAPAN'S FEARS AGAINST THE TESTS AND HER HOPE THAT GENEVA CONFAB ON NUCLEAR TESTS WOULD SUCCEED.
