EHRLICHMAN: "We had a very good, a very full review of the facts. I am not going to go into the substance of the ??? nor any of the peripheral matters except to say I was very gratified at the completeness of the interviews and the spirit in which it was conducted."

STEVENSON: "The legislation will provide for the appointment of a special prosecutor by the Untied States Supreme court. Congress has the power under the Constitution to delegate the appointive power to that court. Background: Former Presidential aides, Mr John ??? and H.R. Haldeman, were questioned by Senate investigators in Washington on Friday (4 May) about the Watergate bugging scandal, and both protested their innocence in the case.

At the same time as they were being questioned, a group of Senators, most from the Democratic Party, announced they would ask for an impartial investigator to be appointed in the scandal by the U.S. Supreme Court.

It was the second day of questioning of the two men, who both resigned earlier in the week after being ??? in the widening scope of the Watergate bugging and cover-up ???.

The Senate investigators, working for a ??? Senate select committee created to prove the Watergate ??? were believed to be concentrating on what part the White House ??? and President Richard Nixon's re-election committee played in the ???.

After their testimony on Friday, Mr ??? made a brief statement, a transcript of which follows:
At the same time, speaking for himself and 28 other Senators, Senator Adlai Stevenson III of Illinois said ??? may ask the U.S. Supreme Court to appoint a non-controversial, ??? investigator to look into the entire Waterage scandal. He ??? Congress had the power to delegate the authority to the court the make the appointment. The government could not delay much longer in the appointment of such an investigator, the Senators felt. A tran??? of Senator Stevenson's announcement also follows:
"The government stands now at the cross roads. The cover-up can continue with yet another public deception -- an independent investigator, employed and controlled by the investigated. Or the search for truth and justice can begin in earnest."
