  • Description

President Nixon's special envoy, Dr. Henry Kissinger, and North Vietnam's peace emissary Le Duc Tho, held another round of talks on a cease-fire agreement in Paris on Friday (8 December), despite a dampening of hopes the day before.

A spokesman for the North Vietnamese delegation said the two negotiators also had planned to meet again on Saturday (9 December), to continue talks.

On Thursday, doubts about the success of the talks received a rebuff when the Viet Cong delegate, Madame Nguyen Thi Binh, replied to rumours of an impending signing with the words "I regret to disappoint you."
The two main negotiators have spent more than 18 hours in five meetings this week, and although each meeting has ended on a friendly note, no agreement on a cease-fire in Vietnam has yet been finalised.

After Thursday's meeting, Mr. Kissinger met French President Georges Pompidou for talks.
