    IN ACCRA, THE CAPITAL, HEAD OF STATE LIEUTENANT-GENERAL J.A. ANKRAH REVIEWED A PARADE, AND SPOKE OF CONTINUED PROGRESS TOWARDS A RETURN TO CIVILIAN RULE.

    GENERAL ANKRAH, FLANKED BY MEMBERS OF HIS NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL, TOLD THE TROOPS IT WAS THEIR DUTY "AS GUARDIANS OF THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE, TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE SPARED THE AGONIES OF FEAR, INTIMIDATION AND MOLESTATION WHICH UNHAPPILY MARRED ACTIVITIES IN THE PAST."
    THEY SHOULD BE ON GUARD AGAINST "THOSE DISGRUNTLED PERSONS WHO WILL TRY TO INDUCE US TO COMPROMISE OUR LOYALTY AND INTEGRITY," HE SAID.

    IN HIS SPEECH, GENERAL ANKRAH ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT ALL MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES AND POLICE SERVING DURING THE OVERTHROW OF DR. NKRUMAH WOULD BE ENTITLED TO WEAR A NEW GHANA REVOLUTION DAY MEDAL. IN ADDITION HE REVEALED THE POSTHUMOUS AWARD OF GHANA'S HIGHEST ORDER - THE STAR OF GHANA - TO THE LATE GENERAL KOTOKA, WHO LED THE FORCES THAT OUSTED DR. NKRUMAH'S GOVERNMENT, AND WAS KILLED IN AN ABORTIVE ANTI-GOVERNMENT RISING LAST YEAR.
