In Canada...the resignation of the Liberal Opposition leader Pierre Trudeau has brought immediate political reaction. Mr. Trudeau surprised Canada by announcing that in four months he will quit his place at the head of the Liberal Party. His resignation speech was quickly followed by a promise from the country's Prime Minister...Mr. Joe Clark...who said he would not take advantage of the Liberal's leadership crisis. And...although Mr. Clark's government has only a precarious one-vote working majority, the Prime Minister says he will not dissolve Parliament and call election before Mr. Trudeau's successor has been chosen. According to observers...the resignation of the former Prime Minister, 60 year-old Trudeau also means that in its turn, the Liberal Party will not try to topple Mr. Clark's Government. When Mr. Trudeau announced his decision to Liberal colleagues he was given a standing ovation. That ovation was echoed a few hours later when the entire House of Commons rose to cheer him....
