  • Description

On June 19 - with heavy security measures in force - voters in Beirut and South Lebanon, totalling about quarter of a million in all, want to the polls to elect 34 more members for the new 99-man Parliament. Other seats were contested earlier.

Although violence has been rare, attempts have been made on the life of relations of Mr.Sami Solh, Premier at the time of the anti-President-Chamoun revolution in 1958.

In Beirut, one of the candidates was Mr. Mohammed Jaroudi, who opposed the pro-UAR independent candidate Saeb Salam, another noted figure of the revolution two years ago.
