Background: Hungary beat World Cup finalists Yugoslavia 3-2 in a stimulating warm-up match, played in Szekesfehervar, Hungary on Wednesday (29 May).

The match was an important one for Yugoslavia, With just two weeks to go before the World Cup kick-off in West Germany, the Yugoslavs were in the last throes of forming their best team. They're due to play Brazil on the 13th of June.

Hungary failed to reach the World Cup finals, but the game also had some significance for the team. It was a farewell game for Albert Florian -- Hungary's brightest star in the 1960's. It was his 75th performance in the national colours, and he was presented with bouquets of flowers before the game began. In 1967 Florian won the France Football's Golden Ball, after the annual voting of journalists for the title of Europe's best soccer player.

Yugoslavia dominated the first half of Wednesday's game, with goals from Popivoda, in the 17th minute, and another from Jerkovics only three minutes later.

Hungary hit back in the second half, with two goals from Mate and another by Fazekas in the 65th minute.
