    LIEUTENANT-GENERAL ANKRAH, THE CHAIRMAN OF GHANA NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL, ON SATURDAY (18 MAY), PRESENTED NEW COLOURS TO THE FOURTH BATTALION OF THE GHANA ARMY, AT MICHEL CAMP, TEMA. THE BATTALION, WHICH TRACES IT'S ORIGIN TO THE GOLD COAST CONSTABULARY, SAW SERVICE, AS THE GOLD COAST REGIMENT, IN THE MIDDLE EAST DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR. IT WAS DISBANDED AFTER THE WAR BUT WAS REFORMED IN 1960 AND SERVED DURING THE CONGO CRISIS.

    WITH GENERAL ANKRAH ON THE DAIS WERE THE GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING THE GHANA ARMED FORCES, MARHSAL OTU, THE COMMANDER OF THE GHANA ARMY, MAJOR-GENERAL OCRAN, AND BRIGADIER A.K. KATTAH, COMMANDER OF THE SECOND INFANTRY BRIGADE, OF WHICH THE FOURTH BATTALION IS A UNIT.

    THE CEREMONY BEGAN WITH THE PILING OF THE DRUMS OF THE UNIT, FOLLOWED BY THE UNCASING OF THE COLOURS. THE COLOURS WERE DRAPED OVER THE DRUMS AND THE REVEREND MAJOR J.K. DADSON, CHAPLAIN OF THE GHANA ARMED FORCES, CONDUCTED THE CONSECRATION SERVICE.

    GENERAL ANKRAH THEN PRESENTED THE COLOURS TO THE BATTALION'S ENSIGN BEARERS. ON THE COLOURS ARE EMBLAZONED THE BATTLE HONOURS WON BY THE REGIMENT SINCE IT'S INCEPTION.
