    Air Afrique on Wednesday (June 24) took delivery of the first DC-8 jetliner to go into service on Africa air routes. The aircraft flew into a warm reception at Abidjan, where Air Afrique has its headquarters.

    The giant four-engined jet's arrival at Abidjan airport was greeted by the Ivory Coast's Transport Minister Grah Kadji, together with Chief of Protocol Georges Ouegnin, Mayor Kenan Kanga of Abidjan, and the Secretary-General of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Mr. Georges Anoma.

    The new DC-8 is capable of carrying 251 passengers at a cruising speed of 560 m.p.h, (900 Km.p.h.). It has a range of 4536 miles (7,300 Kms).
