    CAMBODIA CELEBRATED THE FOURTEENTH ANNIVERSARY OF ITS INDEPENDENCE LAST THURSDAY (NOV 9).

    THE MAIN CELEBRATION WAS HELD IN THE CAPITAL, PHNOM PENK, AND WAS ATTENDED BY THE HEAD OF STATE, PRINCE NORODOM SIHANOUK.

    TO COMMEMORATE THE DEPARTURE OF THE FRENCH IN 1953 AND IN MEMORY OF ANCIENT KHMER HEROES, THE PRINCE LAID A WREATH ON THE CITY'S INDEPENDENCE MONUMENT AND LIT A FLAME OF REMEMBRANCE.

    THE OCCASION FOLLOWED THE END OF AN OFFICIAL VISIT BY MRS. JACQUELINE KENNEDY, AND THE FIRST INVITATION TO WESTERN NEWSMEN TO GO TO CAMBODIA FOR MORE THAN TWO YEARS.

    THE PRINCE LEADS A NEUTRALIST REGIME -- THE ONLY NON-ALIGNED NATION IN INDOCHINA -- AND HAS NO DIPLOMATIC TIES WITH THE UNITED STATES.

    AT THE SAME TIME, HE HAS ATTACKED RECENT ACTIVITIES OF THE CHINESE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC WHICH HE SAID WERE THREATENING TO CAUSE UNREST IN CAMBODIA.
