    BULAWAYO'S TRADE FAIR HAS BEEN OPENED BY SIR DE VILLIERS GRAAF, THE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION IN SOUTH AFRICA. AFTER THE OPENING LAST FRIDAY, HE ATTENDED A SPECIAL CEREMONY AT WHICH THE RHODESIAN LEADER, IAN SMITH, WAS AWARDED THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY.

    SOUTH AFRICA'S PAVILION IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST AT THE FAIR, WHICH COVERS SEVERAL ACRES OF GROUND JUST OUTSIDE THE CITY.

    THE FREEDOM OF BULAWAYO WAS GRANTED TO MR. SMITH BY THE MAYOR, COUNCILLOR W.R. KINLEYSIDE, WHO SAID IT WAS THE CITY'S 75TH ANNIVERSARY AND ALSO THE DAY OF THE OPENING OF THE 9TH CENTRAL AFRICAN TRADE FAIR.

    AFTER AN INSPECTION OF A MILITARY GUARD OF HONOUR BY SIR DE VILLIERS GRAAF, AND MR. SMITH HAD RECEIVED THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY, THERE WAS A FLY PAST BY RHODESIAN JET AIRCRAFT.
