  • Description

Arab and Palestinian leaders have denounced the pressures which forced the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Andrew Young, to resign, as further evidence of the strength of the Israeli lobby in Washington. Mr Young resigned after he had met a Palestine Liberation Organisation representative and failed to inform the State Department. America's black leaders are also dismayed. The head of the Urban League, Vernon Jordan, said he could not understand why Young had to resign, and he called for a full explanation from president Carter. But the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister, Yigal Yadin, said contacts between the PLO and the United States were hostile acts. The reporters are the N.B.C.'s Lee McCarthy and John Cochran.

SYNOPSIS: In Beirut, Senior PLO leader, Yasser Abd Rabbo, said the affair proved United States hostility to Palestinians.
