    Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang party met in an emergency session near Taipei on Thursday (28 October) to plot a new course for the country following the United Nations decision to expel Taiwan in favour of the People's Republic of China.

    "We have sufficient confidence and we will succeed," Vice President-Premier C. K. Yen told the meeting, which was attended by 800 top Kuomintang and Government officials.

    He called on the nation to rally under the leadership of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek and to remain firm in its objective -- the recovery of mainland China and national reconstruction.
