Background: King Hussein of Jordan visited the University of Jordan on Saturday (20 April) in the nation's capital, Amman.
His visit was made to mark the opening of a major five-day conference organised by the University to discuss the history of the Eastern Mediterranean region.
More than 50 professors from 23 countries, representing 60 universities are attending the conference, which will concentrate on the 1,000-year period up to the seventeenth century.
Apart from submitting papers on various aspects of this period of the area's history, the visiting academics will tour a series of sites of major archaeological and historical interest in the country.
King Hussein took the opportunity to tour the University and talk to students before leaving by helicopter.
