  • Description

PALMADALE, Calif., Oct. 21--The first Lockheed TriStar in the "Dash 200" version--with more powerful Rolls-Royce engines (the RB.211-524)--is destined for delivery to Saudi Arabian Airlines in 1977.

The advanced model L-1011 was rolled out of the final assembly hangar at Lockheed's commercial aircraft production and flight test headquarters in the California desert earlier this summer. The aircraft now is in a flight test program that will lead to certification of this new member of the TriStar family for commercial service.

The airline introduced its first TriStar to international service in August of 1975. This was the first extended-range Dash 100 TriStar delivered to an airline. Ultimately, all of Saudia's earlier TriStars are to be converted to the Dash 200 configuration by installing the new, Rolls-Royce engines which increase the TriStar's performance at hot, high-altitude airports.
