    Some 2000 U.S. parachute troops, stationed normally in W. Germany, flew into Beirut, July 19, from Adana airbase, Turkey, to reinforce U.S. Mariner policing Beirut.

    By the weekend, American: Forces there approached 10,000 - at least equalling the Lebanese Army's strength.

    According to the chairman of the U.N. Observer team of 110 men, Senor Galo Plazo, the U.S. Force there has curtailed observer operations to report on UAR infiltration.

    The U.S. and Britain have decided that the Lebanese elections should go ahead on schedule July 24.
