  • Description

This year's graduation ceremonies at the multi-racial University College of Rhodesia in Salisbury took place yesterday (Saturday). The diplomas and degrees were conferred by the vice-chancellor, Mr. Terence Millar, in an open air ceremony outside the college library.

Mr. Millar is being criticised by students and faculty members at the college for allowing his name to be officially linked with a demonstration by two hundred students against the proposed new Rhodesian Constitution. The demonstration, which started today, is planned to last for four days. Its leaders have said that it will be confined to sit-ins in the college grounds and will be non-violent. They gave, however, similar assurances about a previous demonstration in which fruit was thrown at the Mayor of Salisbury.

The Rhodesian Government announced yesterday that the White Paper outlining the new constitutional proposals will be published on May 21st.
