    In Santiago on Tuesday (20 April), President Salvador Allende hosted a reception for cultural figures from several countries. The reception was the first part of "Operation Truth", launched by the President to show the political and social reality of Chile. The Government of Chile maintains that foreign media deliberately distort news from Chile. Intellectuals, writers, artists, film figures, and journalists were invited to the reception, which was modelled after a similar publicity campaign launched by Fidel Castro of Cuba in 1959.

    The reception included intellectuals, writers, artists, film figures, and journalists from several countries including Algeria, Italy, France, and Spain. The reception was the first part of "Operation Truth", launched by President Allende to show the political and social reality of Chile. The government maintains that foreign media deliberately distort news from Chile.

    Altogether one-hundred-and-nine people were invited--forty by the government itself and others by Lan Chile National Airline. "Operation Truth" is the biggest publicity move so far by President Allende's leftwing government, and is modelled on an operation of the same name launched by Fidel Castro of Cuba in 1959.
