  • Description

With West Germany's general elections only six days away, chancellor Willy Brandt intensified his vote-catching campaign on Wednesday (14 November) with public appearances and speeches in Ludenscheid and Cologne.

Latest opinion polls give Herr Brandt's Socialist-Liberal coalition a clear lead over Dr. Rainer Barzel's opposition Christian Democrats (CDU).

Over 40 million voters aged 18 and over are eligible to go to the polls on Sunday to decide whether Chancellor Brandt stays in power. The Allensbach Institute, whose opinion polls over the years have provided an accurate forecast of election results, predicts a 90 per cent turn-out with the vote going to Herr Brandt.
