    Hundreds of people supporting the day of Arab strikes in Israel demonstrated in the streets of Cairo, Egypt and Damascus, Syria on Tuesday (30 March). In both cities protest notes were delivered to United Nations offices.

    In Cairo several hundred Palestinians paraded through the streets carrying banners denouncing Israel's "confiscation, genocide and suppression against the Arab population in occupied territories."
    Palestinian representatives called on the United Nations Information Centre to deliver their protest note.

    The Arab strike day was also observed in Cairo with a rally, which was addressed by Egyptian Premier Momdouh Salem.

    In Damascus Syrian and Palestinian women dressed as Fedayeen commandos marched through the streets carrying flags and banners supporting the Arab strike day.

    The march finished at the United Nations office, which the demonstrators occupied for one-and-a-half hours before handing in their protest to a U.N. representative.

    SYNOPSIS: Demonstrators supporting the Arab day of strikes in Israel and protesting against Israeli actions in the occupied territories marched through the streets of Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday. Several hundred Palestinians carried banners, flags and posters as they marched - denouncing Israel's "confiscation, genocide and suppression against the Arab population in occupied territories."
    Palestinian representatives called on the United Nations Information Centre in Cairo to deliver a protest note. Mr. Gamal Sourani, Cairo representative of the Palestine Liberation Organisation told newsmen that he believed the Israeli authorities would meet the protests in occupied territories with "oppression and violence".

    And in Damascus, Syrian and Palestinian women took to the streets on Tuesday to show solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Dressed as Fedayeen commandos, they marched carrying slogan-splashed banners and flags. On arrival at the United Nations office they occupied the building for one-and-a-half hours before handing in their protest note.

    The strikes and demonstrations on Tuesday were seen by PLO officials as being "expressive of the determination of the Palestine people and as milestone on the path of the Arab nation's struggle".
