  • Description

The President of Niger, M. Hamani Diori, made a brief visit to Tunisia on Thursday (November 8th) as part of a fact finding tour of Arab countries.

He arrived in Tunis from Rabat, where he had talks with King Hassan II of Morocco. President Diori was greeted by the Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba, and the two Heads of State went on to a lunch at the Presidential Palace at Carthage. Their talks centred on the Middle East situation.

President Diori said he had embarked on the tour to take a first hand look at the serious problems of the Middle East and to help strengthen the solidarity shown by nearly all African countries during the latest conflict.

He said the super powers had proved, through their substantial consultations with Third World and Arab countries, that "no solution was possible without the agreement of all countries in the United Nations."
President Diori, who broke diplomatic relations with Israel in January, left for Tripoli, the Libyan capital, after his talks with President Bourguiba. Cairo will be the last stop on his tour.
