Background: Colonel Ignatius Acheampong, President of Ghana's National Redemption Council led a 30-man delegation across the border of neighbouring Togo last Friday (December 7) for an official visit.

Colonel Acheampong was met at the border by President Etienne Eyadema and Togolese Cabinet Ministers and diplomats. The two leaders were cheered by large crowds of Togolese and Ghanaians living in the Republic of Togo.

Later in the day the two leaders had several hours of talks on co-operation between the two countries.

Then the two Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Major Kwame Baah of Ghana and M. Joachim Hunlede ratified the co-operation agreements signed by Colonel Acheampong and President Eyadema in Accra in March this year.

The agreements provide for the setting up of a permanent Commission of Co-operation between the two nations; the exchange of information, and co-operation in sport, commerce and health and welfare.
