The Iranian Prime Minister, Mr. Abbas Hoveyda arrived in Bucharest on Monday (11 August) for talks on economic cooperation between his country and Rumania.
He was met at the airport by the Rumanian prime Minster Mr. Menea Menescu.
Mr. Hoveyda's visit comes at a time when Rumania is trying to strengthen links outside the Soviet bloc, a move which could provoke new problems in its brittle relations with Moscow.
Rumania is seeking closer links with the non-aligned nations and has hinted that the time may come when the country way want join as a full member. Prime Minister Nicolae Ceausescu is also preparing for trade discussions with the nine nation European Common Market.
During his visit to Bucharest, Mr. Hoveyda will have long discussions with Mr. Ceausescu. Rumania has pressed for a seat at an eventual Geneva conference on the Middle East and it is expected this and economic cooperation will be the two major talking point during the Iranian prime Minister's visit.
