The island is in the throes of a renewed spate of murder and arson, with clashes between the Greek and Turkish communities. Daily, reprisals are occurring and the situation deteriorates rapidly. Governor Foct has walled for restraint and asked both sides to start afresh, but his words are having no effect.
Archbishop Makarios is reported to be at logger heads with the Greek Government's handling of the situation at their end and it's rumoured that Anthimos will attempt to urge the Karamanlis administration to take the issue to the UN Security Council.
As Anthimos was driving away from the aircraft that brought him to Greece, Karamanlis arrived by air from Geneva. The Premier walked to over to the car--which bore the initials "A.K." (Cyprus Archbishopry)----and spoke to the Bishop.
