Background: It has been called the most ambitious project in Grand Prix motor racing but now the new Arrows Formula One car is complete-after being built from scratch in under two months-and will run in Sunday's (29 January) Brazilian Grand Prix.

SYNOPSIS: Head of the Arrows racing team, former Grand Prix driver Jackie Oliver, found the factory he wanted on 15 November. Machinery followed a week later and on 6 December work began. Mechanics worked in shifts over the Christmas period and by the beginning of January Oliver felt confident enough to show the car to newsmen. By 19 January the car was ready for a practice run at Silverstone.

But then the British weather took over and snow made any real tests impossible.

But at least it gave Italian driver Riccardo Patress a chance to sit behind the wheel and get the feel of the car he will drive in Brazil on Sunday. Sweden's Gunner Nilsson is the number one Arrows driver, but he is still out of action following a stomach operation.

There are many new features on this all-British car. It's double-sided wings at the front are a new idea in aerodynamics and the car's designer, Tony Southgate, reckons they have the best brakes in the business. The engine will be a Ford-Cosworth.

The whole project has been so rushed Arrows haven't even got their own trailer yet, borrowing this one from Hesketh. The job of building a car completed, the Arrows team then set about dismantling it and packing it in boxes ready for transport to Brazil.
