Background: In Ethiopia representatives of more than sixty countries have been visiting Addis Ababa to take part in celebrations marking the fourth anniversary of the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie.

SYNOPSIS: Cuban President Fidel Castro was guest of honour at the opening ceremony of one of the many events that took place in Ethiopian capital last week. He was accompanied by Ethiopian leader Lieutenant Colonel Haile Mariam Mengistu when he visited Expo 78 -- an exhibition illustrating the changes that have taken place in the country since the revolution.

Among the exhibits on Display - locally produced leather goods - and a printing press.

Outside the main exhibition there was a display of arms captured during the recent war in the Ogaden desert -- when Ethiopian troops supported by Cubans defeated Somali-backed insurgents.

Later President Castro and Colonel Mengistu drive through an enthusiastic crowd to an army rehabilitation centre in Addis Ababa -- where they were presented with bouquets.

The two leaders then toured the building, met the wounded soldiers receiving treatment and inspected the rehabilitation facilities.

As the lines of patients waited to meet their distinguished visitors there were revolutionary songs to remind them of the nature of the celebrations.

During the anniversary celebrations Ethiopians were told that the revolution had encountered many obstacles, but because it was genuine it had overcome all obstructions to reach its present stage.

During his visit to Addis Ababa President Castro was thanked for the support given to Ethiopia by Cuba since the revolution. This was voiced among others by the commandant of the Tatek military training camp outside Addis Ababa, Colonel Afewerk Wolde-Michael.
