    The six-man trade delegation from Bahrain currently touring India visited a Delhi air-conditioner factory on Thursday (29 March). The following day they held talks with the Director of Indian's Foreign Trade Ministry, Mr. Chatwal.

    The delegation's ton-day visit began on Friday 26 March, and follows a tour of the Arabian Gulf States in February this year by India's External Affairs Minister Swaran Singh. The purpose of Mr. Singh's tour was primarily to initiate negotiations for the purchase of India's crude oil supplies directly from the Arab states' governments, instead of buying through foreign oil companies.

    A high-level Iraqi trade delegation is also in India this week to discuss oil supplies and reciprocal economic aid.

    Bahrain's man trading partners are Britain, Japan and Saudi Arabia, and India has so far played only a small part in the Gulf island's economy. India's trade with Bahrain last year was in the order of only four million Indian Rupees (214,000 pounds sterling).

    SYNOPSIS: The Bahrain trade delegation currently visiting India continued their tour with an inspection of some Delhi factories on thursday. For the representatives of the sun-beaten Arabian Gulf Island, their first stop was an appropriate one -- an air-conditioner factory. Led by delegation chief Mr. Khalid Ebrahim Kanoo, the trade team were shown the various stages of the conditioner assembly-line. Factory officials explained to the visitors their methods of production, distribution, and inspection of the final product.

    The Bahrain delegation's ten-day tour began a week before, and follows a visit by Indian external Affairs Minister Swaran Singh to the Arab Gulf States in February.

    A visit to Delhi's Foreign Trade Ministry followed the factory tour. There the six-man delegation met the Ministry's Director, Mr. Chatwal. No details of this meeting, and another with Indian foreign Trade Minister, Mr. Chattopadhyaya, have yet been released. But economic observers believe that the visit is a follow-up to Mr. S???an Singh's tour, during which he discussed the possibility of obtaining crude oil direct from Gulf-State governments. instead of buying through foreign oil companies. The observers suggest that the Bahrain delegation is in India to discuss reciprocal trade concessions.
