    The twenty-sixth session of the Arab Economic Unity Council opened in Damascus, Syria, on Tuesday (2 December).

    At this stage the Council is meeting at ministerial level in the Hall of the People's Assembly (Syria's Parliament House).

    Syrian Economic and Foreign Trade Minister, Dr. Mohammad Imadi, officially opened the session.

    In his opening address, Dr. Imadi welcomed participants and said he hoped Arab economic unity would be realised along the lines of Syrian-Jordanian unity.

    The Council will discuss the co-ordination of commercial, industrial and fiscal policies.

    It will also review the actions and achievements of special organisations and companies set up to co-ordinate Arab attitudes toward international groups.

    Delegates from Syria, Kuwait, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Sudan, North Yemen, Jordan, Mauritania, Somalia, Iraq and Libya are taking part in the Council meeting.
