Background: Moscow, the hero city. It Reds Square...
Here on May 9, 1965 a military parade was held for the 20-th anniversary of the Soviet people's victory in the war against Nazi Germany from 1941 to 1945.
On the rostrum are leaders of the Soviet Communist Party and Government, Soviet marshals, heads of delegations that arrived for the celebrations of the 20-th anniversary of Victory-in-Europe Day. Also present are fighters of the resistance, officers of the anti-Hitler coalition troops.
10 a.m... The Defence Minister, Soviet Marshal Malinovsky, rides off from the Spassk Tower gate.
The commander of the parade, Army General Beloborodov, reports to him about the readiness of the troops of the Moscow garrison for the military marchpast.
The Soviet Defence Minister greets the military units and congratulates them on the 20-th anniversary of the Soviet people's victory in the war against Nazi Germany.
After a review of the troops Marshal Malinovsky rises to the rostrum of the Lenin Tomb and makes a speech. He congratulates the Soviet people and the foreign guests on the holiday, the day of the great victory.
There were no more grim and difficult hardship in the history of our motherland, he says, than the Great Patriotic War. The victory in this war was a display of th superiority of the Soviet social system.
Soviet soldiers, the Soviet Defence Minister declared, are always ready to carry out their sacred duty to defend the dear motherland and shoulder to shoulder with the armies of the fraternal socialist countries to crush any aggressor.
The military marchpast starts. The parade for the 20-th anniversary of the Soviet people's victory over fascism is opened by the most dear military relic, the victory banner. The banner is carried by the Hero of the Soviet Union Lt.-Col. Samsonov. His assistants near the banner are Heroes of the Soviet Union Mikhail Yegorov and Meliton Kantaria.
This division is followed by paratroops. During the war these people became famous for their bravery.
On the stones of Red Square are moving tanks of the Guards Kantemirovsk Division. The division colours, that features bands of government decorations, reminds of the victorious path of the glorious division.
Passing the Lenin Tomb are powerful tractors that trial behind them guns of various calibers.
Column after column are passing guided ground-to-air rockets, the reliable weapon of anti-aircraft defense.
The powerful rocketry troops are the basis of the might of the Soviet Union. The marching past of the missiles is crowned by giant orbital missiles, the might weapon for ensuring peace.
The marchpast for the 20-th anniversary of the Soviet people's victory over fascism once again displayed the military might of the Soviet Union and showed that the Armed Forces of the land of Soviets are vigilantly standing on the way of aggressors, guarding the peaceful labour of the Soviet people and the other countries of the socialist community.
Young drummers pass through the square.
The holiday marchpast of the Moscow garrison troops is opened according to tradition by the Frunze Academy students, students of the academy that won the orders of Lenin and Suvorov and that of Red Banner. The column is headed by the academy's chief, Hero of the Soviet Union and General of the Army Kurochkin, who took part in the storming of the Winter Palace and is a veteran of the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars.
Instructors and students pass in a parade formation through the square who belong to the Lenin military political Academy.
They are followed by those of the Lenin Order Military Engineers Academy and of the Dzerzhinsky Academy that won the order of Suvorov.
On the march are columns of the Red Banner Lenin Order Armoured Troops Academy.
Officers and generals are passing of the Red Banner Kuibyshev Academy, the oldest training centre for the military engineers.
The tune of the air force march is played. Dressing to the Lenin Tomb a parade formation is passing of the Air Force Academy decorated with Red Banner. They include fliers, aerobatics experts, heroes of ramming enemy planes, victors of air battles.
These are followed by students of the Zhukovsky Red Banner Order of Lenin Air Force Academy, who will be graduating as air force engineers and designers. This academy is currently training the Soviet spacemen and Heroes of the Soviet Union Gagarin, Titov, Popovich, Nikolaev, Bykovsky, Leonov and Nikolaev-Tereshkova.
The formations of the fliers are followed by seamen. In the grim war years Soviet seamen performed exploits in Sevastopol, Odessa, Leningrad and Novorossiisk, in the Baltic and Northern Seas.
The participants in the marchpast for the most part feature on their chest orders, and some the gold medals of Heroes of the Soviet Union, which they won for heroism and valour shown in the struggle against the Nazi German invaders.
On the Red Square now is the Guards of the Red Banner Suvorov Order mechanized infantry division named after Kalinin. During the years of the Great Patriotic War this division passed a glorious path of military achievements. For the heroic actions in the battles to liberate the Taman Peninsula it was given the honorary title of Taman Division.
