  • Description

U.S. Army artillery units began shelling targets in North Viet Nam on Monday (27 February). A United States military spokesman says the purpose of the shelling is to destroy vital North Vietnamese military installations near the Demilitarized zone.

The huge 175 mm cannons are based just south of the Demilitarized zone in the South Viet Nam.

The unit shown in this film is part of the Second Battalion 94th artillery regiment.

On the first day the shelling order was put into effect the cannoneers in this film kept up a heavy barrage. The commander of this unit claimed that in the first day of shelling his unit destroyed a North Vietnamese anti aircraft gun and damaged another.

He also said that the shelling of North Viet Nam will be kept up indefinitely.

U.S. Navy warships are also bombarding targets in North Viet Nam.

North Viet Nam claims that the U.S. land and sea shelling of their country is a "new esculation of the war."
