    SYNOPSIS: RELIEF WORKERS ARE REACHING MANY PERSIAN VILLAGES DEVASTATED BY SATURDAY;S EARTHQUAKE. A CONVOY LEFT QAZVIN RESCUE HEADQUARTERS YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) FOR ONE OF THE WORST HIT AREAS.

    CAMERAMAN SEPP RIFF ROOS INTO THE AREA WITH THE RELIEF TEAM. THE CONVOY HAD TO TRAVEL MILES ALONG A RIVER BED. MOST OF THE ROADS AND CART TRACKS WERE FLOODED OR COMPLETELY DESTROYED, HAMPERING EVEN FURTHER THE TASK OF REACHING THE ISOLATED VILLAGES.

    SIRAP WAS THE FIRST VILLAGE REACHED. RIFF SAID: "FROM FAR AWAY WE COULD HEAR THE CRYING OF THE PEOPLE." HERE EVERY HOUSE WAS DESTROYED.

    STUNNED VILLAGERS, CLUTCHING WHAT THEY HAD BEEN ABLE TO SALVAGE, WERE UNABLE TO REALIZE HELP HAD ARRIVED.

    MANY SURVIVORS HAD SEEN RELATIONS DIE IN THE WRECKAGE OF THEIR HOMES, UNABLE TO DIG THEM FREE. IN THIS AREA THERE WERE VIRTUALLY NO MEDICAL SUPPLIES AND SOME OF THE SERIOUSLY WOUNDED VICTIMS HAD DIED BEFORE THEY RECEIVED TREATMENT.

    A FATHER STOOD WITH HIS SONS GRIEVING THE LOSS OF OTHER MEMBERS OF THEIR FAMILY.

    THE SEARCH THROUGH THE RUBBLE GOES ON WITHOUT A BREAK.

    HOWEVER, GRADUALLY THE VILLAGERS COME TO ACCEPT THE CLOTHING AND FOOD BROUGHT BY THE RESCUE TEAMS.

    FURTHER INTO THE HILLS IS THE VILLAGE OF BADIGEM. A HEAP OF RUBBLE AND THE SMELL OF DEATH. IN VILLAGERS TEAR AT THE RUBBLE WITH ROUGH TOOLS AND THEIR BARE HANDS.

    THIS WOMAN HAS LOST ALL HER FAMILY. A FEW TORN CLOTHES ARE LEFT TO CLUTCH AS SHE CRIES HER GRIEF. WHILE THE MEN SEARCH FOR SURVIVORS, THE WOMEN HAVE MOVED TO ROUGH TENTS ON THE OUTSKIRTS WHERE THEY WAIT WITH THE WOUNDED.
