Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, whose body is still being held by the government of Guinea, was honoured with a symbolic burial in Lages, Nigeria on Saturday (6 May).
Dr. Nkrumah, Ghana's first president, died in Rumania on April 27. On April 30 his body was flown to Conakry, Guinea. He had been living in guinea since being outside from power in 1966. His body is still in Cenakry where discussions are taking place to have it returned to Ghana.
As part of the symbolic mock funeral, an open mass was held in Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos. this was followed by a ninety-minutes procession to the "burial ground."
The burial was one of a series of activities sponsored by the "Black Renaissance Movement of Nigeria" to commemorate Dr. Nkrumah's death.
