    United Nations Security-General Kurt Waldheim said on Friday that the United Nations was always ready to offer its good offices to help solve the Indo-China conflict. But he stressed this would only be possible if all the parties desired it.

    Dr. Waldheim was speaking on the stops of the Elysee Palace after talks with French President Georges Pompidou. At a press conference later he said he hoped the peace negotiations in Paris could be resumed; he added that he was prepared to meet the negotiators on all sides, but said no decision had been made.

    The U.N. Secretary-General had a tight schedule to fulfil before leaving Paris for London on Sunday. Officials in his party said it was unlikely that contacts could be established with the four negotiating parties this weekend.

    SYNOPSIS: In Paris, United Nations Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim had talks with President Pompidou at the Elysee Palace, during a two-day visit.

    Dr. Waldheim was asked if he thought the United Nations had a role to play is solving the Vietnam conflict. He said the United Nations was always ready to offer its good offices to help solve the conflict, but he stressed that this could only be done if all the parties desired it.

    At a later press conference Dr. Waldheim said he thought the peace talks in Paris were the right way to solve the problem, and he hoped they could be resumed. He said he would be prepared to meet the negotiators on all sides, but no decision had been taken. Officials in Dr. Waldheim's party said afterwards that they doubted whether he would have time to contact all four sides during his present visit. Dr. Waldheim was due to leave Paris for London on Sunday.
