  • Description

Anti-nuclear-bomb demonstrators tried to march from Trafalgar Square to Parliament Square, London, on April 29th.

But very strong forces of police were already lined up along the route and in Parliament Square before the march began.

The demonstrators succeeded in marching a few hundred yards, between ranks of uniformed policemen, and then staged a sit-down protest in Whitehall.

Everything seemed orderly and peaceful, when police began to remove individuals to police vans. Demonstrations leaders told those arrested to go completely limp as they were carried away.

Before the meeting dispersed, over 800 people had been arrested, and taken to police stations by relays of police vans.
