  • Description

Skaters from Austria, Hungary, Russia and Czechoslovakia, gathered in Moscow for the International Figure Skating Competitions. Watched by a huge crowd of enthusiasts, the competitors weaved electrifying spells as they skimmed along the ice, spun on ti-toe, or performed thrilling jumps and leaps.

Most picturesque was Tanya Nemtsova's performance of the 'Dance of the Dying Swan'. Equally entertaining, in another field, was Selga Zolner in a 'Fire Dance', as she leapt and whirled, in imitation of a flame.

Lev Mikhailov, of Russian, won first prize in the men's optional event. Winners of the pairs optional event was the Austrian couple, Ludia and Rudolf Zorn. In another double event Vera Sukhankov and her partner, Zdenek Dolezal, of Czechoslovakia, won first position with a faultless waltz.
