  • Description

In the United States, Miami-based Cuban exiles have launched a massive fund-rising drive for a possible mini-invasion of their former country and the overthrow of its leader Fidel Castro.

Under the banner "Alpha 66". the movement has already stated that it has "several guerrilla groups in different parts of Cuba" fighting against the Castro regime.

So many Cubans have fled to Florida since 1959 that 26-per cent of Miami's population is said to be refugee. And it is not only from the exiles that funds are being received. Many Americans, the majority wealthy businessmen, have joined in by donating large sums of money.

The response for funds has surprised the organisation's senior official, who say that if a counter-revolution does take place "they are more than ready".
