  • Description

In Montreal, Canada, 2,400 firemen have ended their three-day strike after an agreement to give them a 750-dollar (GBP 320-sterling) cost-of-living bonus was reached on Sunday (3 November).

A spokesman for the firemen's union said the settlement came after 12 hours of non-stop bargaining. However, he did not disclose other details of the agreement.

During the strike more than 25 fires broke out causing damage amounting to millions of dollars. But no one was seriously hurt. Officials from the fir department, civilian volunteers and a few suburban firemen did what they could to put out the fires, but they could do little.
