  • Description

Five tiny babies were born Tuesday night to a New Jersey woman who had taken fertility drugs. They were reported "doing fine" today (26 February) at a New York City Hospital.

The three girls and two boys ranged in weight from three pounds four ounces to four pounds five ounces. The mother is Mrs. Margaret Kienast, 27, of Far Hills, New Jersey. Doctors said Mrs. Kienast, who already had given birth to a girl, now four, and a boy, now 18 months old, after taking fertility drugs, had taken the drugs again because she "wanted a third child."
When she was told she had five babies, her obstetrician said she took it "heroically." Mrs. Kienast had known since the 20th week of her pregnancy that she would have at least four babies.

the Quintuplets' father, William, 38, a salesman, went into seclusion after he heard the news.

Since the family was expecting a multiple birth they have already had work started on an addition to their small house at the end of a winding country road.
