    King Hussein flew into southern Jordan last Saturday (13 May) to formally inaugurate the new Aqaba airport.

    The project was financed with the help of interest-free British loans at an estimated cost of 1,500,000 Jordanian dinars (1,750,000 pounds Sterling).

    With new installations still to be built, the airport is expected to be able to accommodate modern jet aircraft, and will link Amman and other capitals with Aqada by regular flights.

    SYNOPSIS: A new airport at Aqaba in Southern Jordan was formally inaugurated last Saturday in a ceremony officiated by King Hussein who arrived by air from Amman.

    The new airport was financed with the help of interest-free British loans. The total cost is estimated at 1,750,000 pounds Sterling.

    With installations still to be completed, the airport will eventually handle large commercial jet aircraft, linking Amman and other capitals with Aqaba by regular flights.
