    AN EXHIBITION OF RAILWAYS OPENED IN TOKYO'S HARUMI CENTRE ON JUNE 15 TO COMMEMORATE THE 82ND ANNIVERSARY OF INTRODUCTION OF RAILWAYS IN JAPAN.

    THE EXHIBITION DISPLAYED 31 LOCOMOTIVES FROM THE OLDEST 1880-VERSION TO THE LATEST 180-M.P.H. ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE AND MANY SPECIALISED MODELS. ONE OF THE EXHIBITS WAS A REPLICA OF SHIMBASHI RAILWAY STATION AS IT LOCKED IN 1880.

    AMONG THE TYRES ON DISPLAYS WERE THE 'BOTCHAN' LOCO MADE IN U.S.A. IN 1880, 'PORTER' LOCOS IMPORTED INTO JAPAN IN 1882; 'E.F.55' ELECTRIC LOCOS MADE IN JAPAN IN 1935, 105-M.P.H. ELECTRIC TROLLEY, 'MATSUDA-12' LOCO WHICH CAN RUN ON RAILS AND WITH A CHANGE OF WHEELS RUN ON ROADS AND 'C-51' FREIGHT TRAINS DESIGNED IN JAPAN.

    THE EXHIBITION ALSO HAD A GOOD MINIATURE SECTION WHICH DISPLAYED A MODEL OF THE 'DREAM LOCO' THAT IS EXPECTED TO DO 180-M.P.H. BETWEEN TOKYO AND OSAKA BY 1964.
