    THAI PRIME MINISTER THANOM KITTIKACHORN ON FRIDAY (NOVEMBER 8) TOOK THE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE FROM A GROUP OF FRESH RECRUITS TO THE THAI ARMED FORCES. DURING THE CEREMONY FIELD MARSHALL THANOM REMINDED THE RECRUITS OF "COMMUNIST AGGRESSION" IN THAILAND AND ITS NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES.

    IN HIS SPEECH THE PRIME MINISTER ALSO REFERRED TO NEARBY COUNTRIES WHICH WERE "BEING SUPPORTED BY CERTAIN COMMUNIST COUNTRIES WHO WISH TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY'S INDEPENDENCE AND SOVEREIGNTY."
    PRIME MINSTER THANOM STOOD IN A JEEP TO REVIEW A PARADE OF NEW RECRUITS TO THE ARMY, WHICH HAS STARTED BUILDING UP STRENGTH IN RECENT MONTHS. THEN THE RECRUITS TOOK THE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE BEFORE THE COUNTRY'S MILITARY COLOURS.

    AT THE END OF THE CEREMONY A BUDDHIST PRIEST SPRINKLED HOLY WATER ON THE RECRUITS AS THEY MARCHED PAST THE PAVILION ON WHICH THE PRIME MINISTER AND OFFICIAL GUESTS WERE SEATED.
