    THE LITTLE VILLAGE OF IJOFFIN, A FEW MILES FROM NIGERIAN BORDER WITH DAHOMEY WAS BURNT AND ALMOST ENTIRELY DESTROYED DURING THE RECENT NIGERIAN REVOLT.

    THE INHABITANTS OF IJOFFIN WHO ESCAPED FROM THE MASSACRE FLED ACROSS THE BORDER TO DAHOMEY. ALL TOGETHER AN ESTIMATED 2,000 NIGERIAN REFUGEES ENTRED DAHOMEY FOLLOWING THE REVOLT AND THE DAHOMEY GOVERNMENT FINALLY CLOSED THEIR BORDER TO CURTAIL THE INFLUX OF REFUGEES.

    THE DAHOMEY GOVERNMENT, WITH HELP FROM THE RED CROSS AND THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY, IS WORKING TO FEED AND SETTLE THE REFUGEES, MOSTLY YORUBAS, IN TOWNS AND VILLAGES NEAR THE BORDER UNTIL THEY CAN RETURN TO NIGERIA.
