SYNOPSIS: A Belgian trade delegation led by Helssen, was received by Rumania's President Nicolae Ceausescu in Bucharest on Friday. Mr. Helssen is President of the Belgian Economic Committee for Rumania. Other Rumanian officials on hand for the talks included the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Ion Gheorghe Maurer.
The discussions centred on ways to improve and develop economic relations between the two countries, especially in the field of industrial technology.
The talks come at a time when the European Economic Commission has said it is prepared to consider how Rumania can be included in the Community's preferences system. Rumania has asked to be included in the system of generalised preferences granting zero duty on manufactured exports from developing countries. The implication was that Bucharest was willing to give quasi-official recognition to the Community in return for specific commercial advantages.
